Arts and health

I’m pleased to share with you that an exhibition of artwork is now open! It includes works from participants, facilitators and support staff who were part of the neuromuscular clinic and weight management programme’s Arts on Referral pilots, the latter of which I facilitated earlier this year.

It is currently open to the public and is situated in the main atrium of Southmead Hospital, Brunel Building, in the Schools & Communities Gallery (next to The League of Friends cafe).

I went along to see the exhibition and felt very moved indeed. I walked slowly, admiring each piece, and reading participants comments. The sessions took place via Zoom so this was the first time I’d seen the art works in the flesh.

The exhibition can be viewed until 3rd January 2023.

If you would like to learn more about Arts on Referral you can read more about the Bristol area here or ask your GP about what’s happening where you live.

Below are some images of pieces I’ve created, in preparation for, and during sessions, using collage, air drying clay and hand stitching.

The participants pieces are so varied and individual. It is truly a joy to have seen them on screen, during Zoom sessions, and then on display in the hospital.

A big thank you to those who participated and sent in art work and to Esme for curating it all.
