Sew your own craft tote / tool bag

It was with great pleasure that I demonstrated how to make a craft tote / tool bag on Sewing Quarter, back in September of last year. I've finally got around to finishing one for my sewing room and to take to the lessons I teach. I thoroughly enjoyed making it and it's going to be very useful indeed. I based my pattern on the instructions from the Sew it All: Quick Projects Booklet.I made mine entirely from scrap fabrics, including old jeans. I love the fabric I've used for the lining. On a rainy January day it's especially uplifting to look at. Just look at this tropical print!

This is a really versatile project in terms of the variety of fabrics you can use. I'd definitely go for strong fabrics and take a tip from me regarding the denim. I didn't offset my pockets (as discussed in the demonstration) therefore that's quite a lot of layers for a machine to sew through at the side seams. If your machine isn't cut out for that many layers, keep it in mind when you position the strips of pockets.

If you make one, let me know how you get on and do share a picture via social media. It's always so lovely to see other people's makes.

Cheerio for now
